Alicante Airport

Alicante International Airport originally named El Altet, is the main airport for the regions of Alicante and Murcia in Spain . Alicante International Airport is located in the city of Elx ( Elche ), 9 km southwest of the city of Alicante .

El Altet opened on April 5, 1967, replacing the older airdrome La Rabassa that had served Alicante since 1936. The airport took its name from a part of the city ofElx .   Alicante International Airport is the major airport on Costa Blanca, so 80% traffic is international. In 2005, Alicante International Airport carried 8,796,321 passengers. A new terminal is under construction to be finished in 2009.
