Zurich International Airport also called Kloten Airport, is located in Kloten, canton of Zurich, Switzerland and managed by Unique Airport. Zurich International Airport is Switzerland’s largest international flight gateway and hub to Swiss International Airlines soon to be a Lufthansa hub).

Skyguide is responsible for all Air Traffic Control for Zόrich International Airport. In 2003, Zόrich International Airport completed a major expansion project in which it built a new parking garage, a new midfield terminal, and an automated underground train to move passengers between the existing terminal complex and the new terminal. Zόrich International Airport lost traffic when Swissair shut down its operations. When Lufthansa swallowed its successor Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), traffic grew again.

Washington Dulles International Airport serves the greater Washington ,  D.C. metropolitan area. It is named after John Foster Dulles, United States Secretary of State under Dwight D. Eisenhower. It serves as a hub for United Airlines and a focus city for JetBlue Airways.

The inception of  Independence Air in 2004 made Washington Dulles International Airport the fifth busiest airport in the United States and one of the top 10 busiest in the world. At its peak of 600 flights daily, Independence, combined with service from JetBlue and AirTran, briefly made Dulles the largest low-cost hub in the United States .

On a typical day, 1,800 to 2,000 flights are now handled at Dulles, up from 1000 to 1200 in 2003. Washington Dulles International Airport remains the second busiest trans-Atlantic gateway on the Eastern Seabord.  Recently with the demise of Independence Air, JetBlue has slowly expanded its focus city operation at Dulles with six daily non-stops to Boston and New York. The Washington Dulles International Airport  also serves non-stops to Long Beach, Oakland, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas, West Palm Beach, and San Diego making JetBlue the second largest carrier at Dulles in terms of non-stop destinations.

The Washington Dulles International Airport was dedicated by President John F. Kennedy on November 16, 1962. The main terminal was designed by famed Finnish architect Eero Saarinen and it is highly regarded for its graceful beauty, suggestive of flight. In fact, the original terminal at Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport in Taipei, Taiwan was modelled after the Saarinen terminal at Dulles.

The Washington Dulles International Airport  was the first airport in the world specifically designed for jet aircraft, and many of its architectural features were experimental at the time. Mobile lounges that brought passengers directly from aircraft to the terminal were supposed to be the wave of the future, but this innovation was not widely duplicated throughout the world at later airports. Some of the other innovations, such as the midfield terminal and extra-long runways, were designed with a future role as a spaceport in mind.

The Washington Dulles International Airport straddles the border of Fairfax County  and Loudoun County, Virginia . It is located partly in Chantilly and partly in Dulles, west of Herndon and southwest of Sterling . It is operated by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. In 2005, Dulles saw over 27 million passengers through the airport.

The Washington Dulles International Airport  is accessible via the Dulles Access and Toll Roads (Virginia Route 267), US Highway 50, or Virginia State Highway 28. The Washington Metro currently offers only an express Metrobus, but a new Washington Metro subway line will finally connect Dulles to Washington by train by 2015.

A more expensive alternative method to reach Washington Dulles International Airport  is via the Washington Flyer Coach bus service that operates roughly every thirty minutes between the airport and the West Falls Church Metro Station.

Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport is located in the Okecie borough of Warsaw, Poland. It was formerly called Okêcie International Airport. Named after Poland’s famous composer Frederic Chopin, it is the country’s largest airport.

The land was used for aviation since 1910, while in 1927 it was decided that Okêcie would become the city’s primary airport. After the completion of technical buildings and the passenger terminal in 1934, the airport took over the handling of all traffic from the Pole Mokotowskie airfield. Except LOT Polish Airlines, Okêcie was also home to four squadrons of the Polish Air force and to aircraft manufacturer Doœwiadczalne Zak³ady Lotnicze.

During WWII the Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport infrastructure was almost completely destroyed. In 1969 a new international terminal was opened; domestic flights continued to operate from the facilities built on the site of the pre-war terminal. The current two story Terminal One was constructed in 1992 to replace the separate domestic and international terminals. The latter has since been mostly torn down with the arrivals hall being adapted in 2003 to form the temporary Etiuda Terminal for low cost carriers.

The construction of a second terminal to deal with rising traffic is currently under way. The combined Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2) will triple the airport’s capacity and was to be open by spring 2006, but the construction was delayed. Currently (April 2006), opening is tentatively scheduled for summer 2007. There are also plans to move low cost flights to the former military airfield in Modlin north of Warsaw as well as longer-term projects of building a completely new airport to serve the city with Modlin, Sochaczew and Mszczonow being possible locations. Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport has scheduled passenger service to nine domestic and 76 international destinations in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America.

Marco Polo Venice Airport is an airport located on the Italian mainland near Venice, Italy, in Tessera, a  frazione of the commune of Venice nearest to Mestre that, before Fascism, was an autonomous commune.

Marco Polo Venice Airport was named after the Venetian traveler Marco Polo, who is considered the European rediscoverer of China. It is considered one of the three most important airports in northern Italy (with the two international airports of Milan, Malpensa and Linate). Marco Polo Venice Airport is managed by SAVE S.p.A., a company partially controlled by local authorities. The stock is traded on the Milan Stock Exchange.

Marco Polo Venice Airport is connected to the nearby railway station of Venice-Mestre and to the bus terminal of Venice-Piazzale Roma by scheduled bus services, and to Piazza San Marco by water taxi.

Esenboga International Airport is an airport  in Ankara, the capital city of  Turkey. Esenboga International Airport has been operating since 1955. It is located in the north of Ankara, 28 km from the center. Transportation to the city center is by taxi and by bus.

Esenboga International Airport is a CATII airport. Airport has a total area of 7.500.000 m². Domestic Terminal has a closed area of 7.500 m² and International Terminal has a closed area 7.950 m².

There are two 3750×60 meter 3750×45 meter paved runways. There are also 1 VIP lounge and 1 CIP lounge.

New Domestic and International Terminals are under construction. Construction started in October 2004 and expected to finish within 36 months.
New Domestic and International Terminals will have the properties as set below:

Toronto Pearson International Airport, or Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International Airport straddling Mississauga’s northeastern boundary with neighboring Toronto, is Canada’s busiest airport and part of the National Airports. In 2005 the Toronto Pearson International Airport was ranked 29th among the world’s busiest airports, handling 29.9 million passengers and the 23 rd busiest airport for aircraft movements with 409,401.

Toronto Pearson International Airport serves the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and is the primary hub for Air Canada although Montreal is its main base. Formerly run by Transport Canada, Toronto Pearson International Airport is now run by a non-profit agency called the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.

Toronto Pearson International Airport first opened in 1939 as Malton Airport. It was renamed Toronto International Airport in 1960, and then to Lester B. Pearson International Airport (LBPIA) in 1984 in honor of Lester B. Pearson, Canada’s 14 th prime minister.

On December 2, 1966, operational control of the airport passed from the Government of Canada to the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) as part of the National Airports Policy. The full name of the airport, according to the GTAA, is now “Toronto Pearson International Airport”, but it is also sometimes simply called “Pearson.” News media and travel agents typically refer to the airport as “Lester B. Pearson International Airport”.

In 1972, the Canadian government expropriated land east of Toronto for a second major airport, Pickering Airport, to relieve congestion at (then) Toronto International. The project was postponed in 1975 due partly to community opposition, but GTAA revived the plans in 2004.

After the September 11, 2001 attacks Toronto Pearson International Airport was part of Operation Yellow Ribbon, as it received 19 of the diverted flights that were coming into the United States, even though Transport Canada and NAV CANADA instructed pilots to avoid the airport as a security measure.

Toronto Pearson International Airport is located about 32 km west of downtown Toronto. Most of Pearson (including its passenger terminals and airplane facilities) is in Mississauga, but a small eastern portion of land is located in Toronto. Toronto Pearson International Airport is accessible from Highway 427 (just north of the Highway 401 interchange) or from Highway 409, a spur off Highway 401 leading directly into the airport.

Bus services connecting Toronto to Toronto Pearson International Airport include two Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) routes, an express running from Kipling subway station and a local route from Lawrence West station, the latter also continuing beyond the airport t Malton. GO Transit operates a semi-express bus from Yorkmills and Yorkdale stations, and there is a privately operated “Airport Express” bus serving various major downtown hotels. Mississauga Transit operates a city bus from the Square One Shopping Center in Mississauga’s in city centre, likewise continuing on to Malton.

In July 2006, the LINK Interterminal Shuttle people mover was opened, with two 6-car trains running between Terminals 1 and 3, and a reduced rate and airport staff parking lot on the other side of Airport Road at Viscount Drive.

Tokyo International Airport located in Ota, Tokyo, Japan is one of the main airports serving the Greater Tokyo area.

It is commonly known as Haneda Airport to differentiate it from Narita Airport in Chiba Prefecture. Narita handles most international flights to the region; Haneda’s only international service is to Gimpo International Airport in Seoul, South Korea.

Haneda Airport consistently ranks among the world’s busiest passenger airports even though nearly all of its flights are to destinations within Japan. By passenger throughput, Haneda is the busiest airport in Asia, handling 62.3 million passengers in 2004.

Haneda Aerodrome first opened in 1931 on a small piece of bayfront land at the south end of today’s airport complex. It was Japan’s largest civilian airport at the time it was constructed. During the 1930’s it handled flights to destinations in Japan and Manchuria.

In 1945, U.S. occupation forces took over the airport and renamed it Haneda Army Air Base. The Army evicted many nearby residents to make room for various construction projects. As a military base, Haneda received its first international flights in 1947 when Northwest Orient began scheduled service to the United States, China, South Korea and the Philippines. Japan Airlines began its first domestic operations from Haneda in 1951.The U.S. military gave part of the base back to Japan in1952; this portion became known as Tokyo International Airport. The rest of the base was returned to Japan in 1958.

European carriers began service to Haneda in the 1950s. Haneda’s instrument landing system became operational in 1961.A new runway and international terminal were completed in 1970, but demand continued to outpace expansion.

In 1978 , Narita International Airport opened, taking over almost all international service in the Greater Tokyo Area, and Haneda became a domestic airport.

Haneda may assume a larger international role in the future as Narita Airport is expected to become more overcrowded; a fourth runway is under construction and a third terminal for international flights is being planned. Currently, many international travelers from the Greater Tokyo Area fly from Haneda to Kansai Airport or other international airports in Japan and then connect to international flights, saving the time and expense otherwise required to get to Narita.

Stockholm-Arlanda Airport is an international airport located in Sigtuna Municipality near to the town of Marsta 42 km north of Stockholm and 28 km south-east of Uppsala. Stockholm-Arlanda Airport is located within Stockholm county and the province of Uppland.

Stockholm-Arlanda Airport is the largest airport in Sweden and the 15th largest airport in Europe(17.1 million passengers 2005). It is also one of two major hubs of Scandinavian Airlines System.

Stockholm-Arlanda Airport was first used in1959, but only for practice flights. In 1960, it opened for general traffic, and in 1962, the official opening ceremony took place. The name Arlanda was decided after a competition prior to the airport opening. It is derived from Arland, an old name for the parish Ärlinghundra where the airport is situated. The ‘a’ was added in analogy with other Swedish place names ending with -landa, and also makes the name a pun on the Swedish verb “landa”, which means “to land”.

Stockholm-Arlanda Airport has four terminals. Terminals 2 and 5 are used for international flights. Domestic flights are in terminals 3 and 4. The new central building, Arlanda North, opened late 2003, connecting terminal 5 with the newly built Pier F. All international flights handled by SAS and its Star Alliance partners use the new central building. An Arlanda South building, connecting terminals 2, 3 and 4, was also planned, but construction is currently suspended due to lack of funds. Between terminals 4 and 5 is the shopping centre Sky City, which also has a main line railway station. Furthermore, the Arlanda Express trains connect two stations at the airport with Stockholm. The airport has a capacity of about 25 million passengers per year.

Facilities

Ground transportation

Rail

The fastest way to connect to Stockholm-Arlanda Airport from the downtown central station is by taking the Arlanda Express high-speed train. The 20-minute train ride costs 200 SEK and can be combined with a taxi or use of the public transportation system SL as a time efficient method of travel to the airport.

Upptåget, operated by Upplands Lokaltrafik, is the new commuter train between Upplands-Vasby – Stockholm-Arlanda Airport –Uppsala-Gavle. The train takes about 19 minute to Uppsala and 90 minute to Gävle. The train depart every 30 min. The train costs 95 SEK to Uppsala and 180 SEK to Gävle. The train departs from Arlanda railway station.

Arlanda also has a railway station where long-distance trains operated by SJ to locations north and south of Stockholm-Arlanda Airport make stops to pick up and drop off passengers. A fee is levied on arriving or departing passengers which use the underground railroad station.

Bus

The cheapest way to travel to and from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport is by using SL bus no. 583 which travels between the airport and Märsta station where a commuter train connects with Stockholm Central Station (traveling time by train is approximately 60 min). Discount coupons are sold at the convenience stores operated by Pressbyran and 7-Eleven inside the terminals and Sky City. The cost is 20 kr or 18 kr if using discount coupons (one set costs 180 kr for 10 journeys) (2006). Commuter trains operated by SJ to Stockholm Central Station and Uppsala also stop at Märsta station.

Taxi

The other quick method of transportation between Stockholm-Arlanda Airport and locations in Stockholm or Uppsala is by taxi. All taxi companies are required to offer fixed prices when going from the airport, which takes away the guess-work of how much the fare will cost (one can still request use of the taxi meter). Most companies also offer fixed prices to the airport. Approximate cost is 450 kr for the 35-50 minute journey to downtown Stockholm (2005) and the taxi can take four passengers (more if one orders a larger taxi).

Airport Parking

Terminal parking, short-term and long-term parking is available at the airport but can be quite expensive.

Stansted Airport   is a large passenger airport with a single runway and is a hub for a number of major European low-cost airlines. Stansted is located in the Uttlesford District of Essex about 30 miles north-east of London .

Stansted was constructed by the United States Army in 1942 as a bomber base. By 1944, more than 600 aircraft were stationed there. The base played a major role in the Battle of Normandy.

After the war, the base was not needed and was transferred to the Air Ministry in 1947. The US military returned in 1954 to extend the runway for a possible transfer to NATO but this was never re ali sed and the airport ended up under BAA control in 1966.
Stansted is the fourth busiest airport in the UK and third-busiest airport in the London area after Heathrow Airport  and Gatwick Airport . In 2005 Stansted handled almost 22 million passengers.

Several budget airlines such as Ryanair and easyJet maintain bases at Stansted and FedEX is a dominant operator of trans-Atlantic freighter services.
In December 2003 the Government published a White Paper, setting UK policy for air transport for the next 30 years. The Government gave its backing for massive expansion of air travel. Specifically, it supported maximum usage of Stansted’s present runway and the construction of a second runway by 2011/2012. This would allow Stansted to handle more passengers than Heathrow does today. At maximum capacity, the expanded airport could process 80 million passengers per annum and a significant proportion of the UK ‘s freight traffic. The proposals are strongly opposed by campaign group Stop Stansted Expansion.

Stansted has a railway station below the terminal building, with frequent rail services to London  and less frequent services to Cambridge  and the Midlands . The Stansted Express train runs to and from Liverpool Street Station in London every 15 minutes and the journey time is 45 minutes.

Scheduled express bus or coach services run to and from Stratford , Victoria Coach Station, Liverpool Street Station and Golders Green. The bus/coach station is adjacent to the terminal building. National Express runs scheduled but infrequent direct coach services to the airport from Oxford .

Stansted is connected to northeast London and Cambridge by the M11 Motorway and to Colchester and Harwich by the A120 dual-carriageway.  The long term car park is situated about a mile from the terminal and passengers need to allow at least twenty minutes to park and use a courtesy bus shuttle service prior to check-in. There are short term car parks next to the terminal building.

Southampton Airport  is the 20th largest airport in the United Kingdom, located in Eastleigh near Southampton. Southampton Airport is owned by BAA plc. CAA statistics state that Southampton Airport handled in excess of 1.8 million passengers during 2005.

In 1936 the first test flights of the Supermarine Spitfire were conducted at the Southampton Airport, an event commemorated in 2004 with the erection of a near-full size sculpture of a Mk V Spitfire at the road entrance.

On March 5th, 2006 at 16:30 GMT, five restored Spitfires took off from Southampton Airport to commemorate the seventieth anniversary of the first flight the of the Spitfire at the precise same time as the test flights in 1936

here are plans supported by the local council to rename the Southampton Airport after RJ Mitchell, designer of the Spitfire. However, the choice whether to rename the Southampton Airport lies with BAA.

Southampton Airport is served by a dedicated mainline railway station with a fast and frequent service. It has the closest mainline railway station to a terminal building in the UK.

The Southampton Airport is also located close to the junction between the M3 motorway and M27 motorway giving easy road access to Southampton, Winchester, Bournemouth, Portsmouth and places in between.
